My Journey of Learning and Growth with the Microsoft Power Platform.
In June 2021, Foyin was invited by Moji to the Wogepeef platform where she introduced us to Power Platform. I learnt about it but didn’t use the platform as I had a lot of learning in my Data Science and AI fellowship program with Tech4dev. Currently, the demand for the skill is increasing and I decided to begin this transformative journey with the Microsoft Power Platform again.
I started again on Udacity, a place that got me really interested in learning, and that’s where I built an Inventory Management app featured on my LinkedIn profile. And then things got even more exciting as I went to Microsoft Learn, which is an online platform with lots of amazing stuff to learn from. Microsoft, the creators of all this amazing technology, gathered up a bunch of really helpful things for us to use and learn from.
Venturing into this domain, I again embarked on the Microsoft Power Up program, a decision I have come to cherish profoundly. Allow me to share the remarkable insights I've gained through my weekly experiences.
Week One:
The week began with us exploring the learning hub/platform where we could learn a lot and get familiar with the platform and tools for developing solutions.
After which we were welcomed by Charles Lamanna - CVP, Business Applications and Platform. He introduced other Champions who have volunteered to guide us. Some included David Warner the Community Program Manager - Microsoft Power Apps, Kristine Kolodziejski - Business Applications MVP London, England.
We got really inspired when we heard success stories. For example, Rebecca Hamma, who's really experienced with the Power Platform, went from working in finance to making her very first app called "Reporting Damaged Product." She told us that using data was super important in making her app successful.
We heard another story from Samit Saini from London Heathrow Airport who moved from a security guard to a power platform SME expert. His first app was the “Language translation app” which helped in his duties at the airport. After this, he proceeded to teach others and created a community for learning and collaborating.
Again, we listened to Gareth Crompton a senior digital engineer at Jaguar Land Rover, who leveraged on the power platform and transitioned from a frontline store worker to a senior digital engineer in his organization. His curiosity and inquisitive nature led him to create solutions and he has built over 100 apps in 3 years. Some of these apps are: “Authority to Hire”, “Software Request”, “Employee Utilization”, “Master HR Case” and “Company Asset Return” among others. He mentioned that the Power Platform Documentation is a great resource that gave him clarity on upskilling technically.
The testimonies of these triumphs became a catalyst, fuelling my eagerness to delve deeper into the program. Without a moment's hesitation, I joined Jada Phillips, who masterfully guided us through the corridors of the Power Platform.
By the end of the week, I achieved some important things:
I started learning the basics of the Power Platform.
I understood why it's so important for businesses.
I got good at using connectors and Dataverse, which are like special tools.
I learned how to make Microsoft 365 apps work together smoothly.
I saw how Microsoft Teamwork and the Power Platform can work together to make things better.
As the week came to an end, I felt like I was ready to start a really exciting journey. I had learned a lot and was ready to explore more about the amazing world of the Microsoft Power Platform.
